It's my Birthday!! Birthday Blog Candy Give A Way!! and a Blog Candy Winner!!

Hello Crafty Friends!! I am so excited because today is my Birthday!

For those of you that have been around the blogging world for as long as I have this will be my 6th year celebrating my birthday with all my blogging friends!  While I try not to get to personal on my craft blog I do like to take this day and reflect on my past year and bring my life up to date! I post more personal stuff on my Instagram and my Running blog, both found on my right sidebar! My time this past year was spread so thin between 2 teenage girls, some personal issues, deciding and making tough decisions about my crafting and design teams and keeping my Skittle embellishment dream alive. I struggled many days and often found myself asking why am I doing all this?? Between the good, the bad and everything in between I still face each day with the understanding it is a chance for a new beginning, a gift that I need to have full appreciation for. So with all that said, thank you to all my blogging friends turned real friends, I love the emails, text messages, meet ups and all the fun stuff that has come along with keeping this blog going! I know that I keep it pretty crafty on my blog but I am a real person, with a real family, with real things happening, just like all of you. So if my blog sometimes seems to go on auto-pilot it's because I am involved in life!  So anyways, I took a minute to take a selfie because that is the cool thing to do nowadays:

I also lost my girl Kimber this year. One of the saddest days of my life. Coming home to an empty house was unbearable so I decided to rescue a doggie in need and brought home Winston:

He likes to run with me, sit on my lap, and hang out in my craftroom!

Now back to the crafty stuff! I have a winner from my Skittle Guest Designers announcement!

Congrats Sammi! Please email me your address and I will pop some Skittles in the mail!

And thank you to everyone that has supported the Skittles Embellishment Line! I have lots of new colors in my Shop

How would you like to win a surprise birthday goodie bag?? Just leave a comment below helping me with this decision:

I was digging through some old stuff and came across a photo album of stuff that I collected from before Kindergarten through about the 8th grade. Can you believe I Smashed-booked before it was even a thing??  It is from almost 35 years ago! So as you can image the old style photo album that I had everything in that has the clear top that kind of sticks to the white page? Well nothing is sticky anymore and all the pages are yellow and somethings fell out of the pages. Should I just leave it as it is?? OR should I take the book and everything that is in there re-smash and scrapbook it all?? I am not sure if I should touch it and change the memory or bring it back to life mixing my old memories with new ones! PLEASE let me know pros and cons and what you would do!!

Here is a picture of one of my pages:

This was the invitation I received to my Aunt Jo's Wedding back in 1982! I made this page when I was 9 years old. I didn't have any pattern paper or embellishments!

Everyone that leaves a comment giving me a suggestion about what I should do with my old memory book  will be entered to win a surprise goodie bag from me!!

  2. First, happy birthday. Second, Winston is a little cutie pie. Third, I would leave your book alone - unless it's falling apart and must be repaired then re-scrap it all. I have one of these too and have thought about re-doing it but I'm too afraid of something getting messed up if I try to remove it from the original book.

  3. Happy birthday and love your sweet new friend. I would leave it alone. I have those same kind of albums with my kids baby pics in them. I would be so afraid to mess them up. I would try to fins some kind of bag/package I could seal it in so it doesn't get any worse. One that you can open and enjoy your memories whenever you want. Maybe you could make a special box and decorate that. Just add some of those little packets that keep things dry.

  8. Happiest of Birthday's today!!! have a great day. so nice to see a picture of you.

I would leave your old scrapbook alone. I have many like that too. You could just use a tape gun and tack the pics/papers back on the album. I say save the integrity and charm of something you made long ago. You will be glad you did. If you want to make something new, take pictures of each page and then scrap that in a new style

  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I am a bit torn also. On one hand leaving it be keeps the integrity of the style when you did it. On the other It would be nice to spruce it up. I think if you take a picture of the original and use it on the remake page, you would be able to keep your memories and preserve the pages better. I have one of those books also and I keep trying to take the time to fix it up. My old books are falling apart and things dropping out of them. Those are my pros and cons. I vote for fixing it up so that the memories can be safer. Have a great birthday! Hugs, Robin

  10. Happy Birthday!
Since the kind of album you have your special keepsakes in right now will continue to yellow them and allow them to deteriorate here is my idea. Take lots of pictures of how the pages look right now then add those to the new pages you make with your keepsakes. It will allow you to both keep your memories of those pages and keep your keepsakes safe.

  11. I think I'd try to put it back to as original as I could get it!

  12. Happy Birthday first of all! So exciting that you have been keeping this blog going for so long. :) I also love your old scrapbook the way it is. Unless of course some pages are falling apart and you risk loosing some of your treasures. Then have fun repairing it and show us some pictures!

  13. Happy Birthday. If there is anyway to take just the original pages and put them in a new style album - just to keep everything sealed and from aging any further I would do that. As long as the air can't get to them, they should not age anymore.

  14. Happy Birthday my sweet friend. Definitely take a Photo of how it is now.I would take the pages and conserve them, there are products out that will remove the yellow and I would put everything back exactly as your originally made it the out cover may need to be replaced. Then vacuum seal it so there is no further oxidation. Big Hugs Diana

  15. Hey there,
Happy Birthday girl! I hope you are enjoying your day! Wow...6 yrs already! That's crazy~you have shared so many awesome projects and I hope you can continue when time allows as you are an inspiration to all of us. I do know what you mean...I often ask the same question~life does get in the way at times and we just have to go with it. Our family is first...and is most important above all! Winston is adorable and what a great addition to your family...so glad he can be your running partner to:)

I would leave your book alone~Maybe you can fin a shadow box and decorate it and put that in there as a keepsake!
Have a great evening my friend!

  16. I would leave the book as is. It's such a beautiful memory and I'd feel like the memories would be lessened if the book were to be changed. Maybe put the book in a glass case of some kind to preserve it?

Oh and Happy Birthday Girl! Hope you had a wonderful day!

  17. Oh, my goodness, Carri, so much to comment on! First of all, I have to say that you do NOT look old enough to have two teenage daughters?! Which brings me to: I don't know how you do it all! Secondly, Happy Belated Birthday!! (If there is some candy going on, please don't put me in as I have so much schtuff already!) Thirdly, please don't touch that sweet, sweet smash book of your mementos. It is a beautiful snapshot of where you were at that moment in time and it would be a shame to lose that moment. It takes you THERE, which IMHO you would lose if you updated it. It certainly proves you were a girl ahead of her time that's for sure!! Lastly, I'm so glad you rescued Winston!! Enjoy your day! Hugs, Darnell

  18. Wishing you a very happy birthday! Wishing you many more here in blog land! You are such an incredible card maker and your skittles are amazing. And for your sweet little scrapbook...LEAVE IT BE...I would never try to do anything to change it.

  19. I had a similar thing happen with photos in album with those kind of pages. I was able to take the photos of the pages without damaging them & put them in new photo sleeve pages. Also had this happen with some scrapbooking from early yrs and left it as is.
Nice to rescue a new dog. I had to put Teddy down May last yr and in Aug of last yr I rescued a Lab/Retriever mix named Daisy and she is a joy.
