Enamel Dots made with Pony Beads Tutorial!! Fun Embellishments!!

Hello crafty friends!! I had a huge task of washing way too many dishes, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors after I hosted a birthday party for my 13 year old. (yes officially a teen!) So I knew I would be stuck downstairs in the kitchen area for most of the day. I haven't been near my craft room in days so I was missing being crafty. I have seen lots of posts lately for enamel dots and decided this would be the perfect project to make while being stuck cleaning my kitchen!

My project: Enamel dots made with Pony Beads:

You will need: Pony beads, a flat cookie sheet (one that does not bend when it gets too hot) or a glass pan. (I used both) and Parchment paper.

Pre-heat your over to 450 degress. I have a convection oven so the fan was roaring away at such a high temperature. Open all the doors and windows because the plastic burning and smoking is really smelly!

Line the pan with parchment paper.

 I  made 2 mistakes.... my paper was long and hung on the outside of the cookie sheet so when I placed it in the oven the edges curled up causing the pony beads to slide so cut your paper shorter than the pan without any curl ups on the edges. I had way too many beads on my first 2 trays which caused many of them to melt together.

Spread your pony beads with lots of space between them to allow room to melt

Cook in the oven for 12-15 minutes. I just kept my eye on them. They start out high and as they melt start to spread so once they were spread I baked them 2-3 more minutes then took them out. Then let them cool before sliding them off the parchment paper.

 Much better!!

This took me about 5 hours! I just baked until I had used all the pony beads! I found the regular pony beads at the Dollar Store and the mini pony beads at Michael's and I used a 40% off coupon. 

I have thousands of these beads in my kid's craft closet from tons of old projects that some day I will dig threw, find and cook!

The enamel dots are very light, I adhered mine using a low temperature hot glue gun. I think they are a great addition with skittles, like buttons and brads!

It was fun to try making these, they were a lot of work. They are cute, but I think I just love my skittles too much!!
